After climbing up the windmills solid but ancient spiral staircase, we came to the point where the wind energy would have been transfered through the illustrated wooded gears to some sort of crushing/grinding mechanism below.

While I assumed that this structure was at one time used to grind grain, I wondered if it could have also been used in the wine making process, as the site was surrounded by vineyards.
